Suellen Reed Obituary

Suellen Beth (Sawyer) Reed, 73, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, after a long battle with heart and kidney disease.  She was born in Gardiner, ME on September 14, 1952 to Herold and Catherine Sawyer.

She grew up in Farmingdale and graduated from Hall-Dale High School, class of 1970.  She attended Rick’s College in Idaho.  She met Earl “Sam” Hansen in 1971, and they had three sons.  Later, she remarried (Kenneth Minoty) with whom she had her fourth son.

She was a single mother with four boys when she met Ronald H. Reed in 1987.  She and Ronnie were married on May 1, 1988.  It was then that she and her sons moved to Waldoboro.

Sue liked to read, travel and was an enthusiastic bargain shopper.  She loved any time spent with family whether it was simply cookouts or visiting her sister, Tricia, at camp.  She was very involved with her church and was so happy to attend Temple as often as she could.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Catherine; her sisters, Lottie Ann and Sarah Jane; her husband, Ronald “Ronnie” Reed, in 2012; her son, Tom Hansen in 2023; and Ronnie’s daughter, Katie Reed in 2024.

Sue is survived by her sons, Michael Hansen or Rockland, Jared Hansen of Searsmont, and Joseph Minoty and his fiancee, Amelia of Rockland; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Rogers of Waldoboro; Ronnie’s two sons, Travis Reed and his wife Sally, and Howard Reed, both of Waldoboro; her grandchildren, Aasta (and Ben), Ian, Julia (and Caleb), Tyler, Annabelle, Leah (and Tristan), Emily, Elizabeth, Xander, Kaleb, Aria, Desiree (and Daigan), Zoe, and Liam; great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Raelyrn, Hunter, Aubrii, Chevy and Maverick; as well as sisters, a brother, many nieces, nephews and her loving church family.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Jefferson Green for taking care of her, and a special thanks to Sue’s two favorite staff members, Ceena and Tia.

A service to remember Sue will be held at 11:00am, on Saturday, March 14th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Damariscotta.  Burial will be private at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Sue had expressed wishes for donations to be sent to Pope Memorial Humane Society and/or the Special Olympics of Maine.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.  Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
