Shirley Gallagher Obituary

Shirley R. Gallagher, 88, of Nobleboro, passed away quietly at her home on April 26, 2024. She was born in Westbrook on March 24, 1936, the daughter of Marjory (Wilson) and Robert M. Robinson.

She grew up in Gorham and attended Gorham schools. She was a graduate of Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, now Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. She worked in several hospitals in and out of the state. She retired after 12 years working as a charge nurse for a local nursing home.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, the family camp, her friends, and playing tennis. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work which kept her busy, but not necessarily out of trouble!

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, John N. Gallagher.

She is survived by her three children, Sheila A. Gallagher of Bucksport, James R. Gallagher of New Harbor, and John (Jack) W. Gallagher and his wife, Stephanie, of Nobleboro; and grandchildren, Courtney, Tegan, and Aidan.

The family will respect their mother's request of no funeral. A private family service will take place on the lake at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Midcoast Humane, 5 Industrial Parkway, Brunswick, ME 04011.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.  Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: www.StrongHancock.com.
