Ann Fichtner Foster passed away at Sussman House in Rockland, ME on Aug. 14, 2023. She was the daughter of Harry G. Fichtner and Alma Bartley Salmon Fichtner of Boonton, New Jersey. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Harry G. Fichtner Jr, and Roger Salmon Fichtner, and her sister Jane F. Mikula, and by her husband Stanley E. Foster. Ann graduated from St. John’s School, Mountain Lakes, NJ and Berkley Secretarial School, East Orange NJ. Ann is survived by her son Bruce S. Foster, her daughter-in-law Anne C. Foster, of Portland, ME, her grandson Christopher M. S. Foster, his wife Teresa Foster, great granddaughter Alana Devon Foster, of Auburn, ME, many nieces and nephews both grand and great grand and her two cousins. She is also survived by her niece, Amy Jones, who over the years has been an important part of her life.
Ann was a member of the National Society D.A.R.’s General Knox Chapter of Thomaston and Lady Knox Chapter of Rockland for many years. She was a member of the Federated Church of Thomaston for over 70 years. While she lived in Thomaston Ann was part of several committees ranging from church committees to The Fourth of July Committee. One of Ann’s passions was horse back riding which led her to volunteer with the Freedom Riders, who provide opportunities to people, with physical, developmental, and intellectual challenges, to ride and/or be with horses.
The family wishes to thank Rev. Susan Stonestreet for her attentiveness and support of Ann since Susan took on the role of Minister at the Federated Church. The family and Ann herself ”...wish to thank all the Staff, Nursing Staff and CNAs at Quarry Hill” for their excellent care.
A graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday, September 9th at the Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake Road, Bucksport, Maine. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Federated Church, 8 Hyler St., Thomaston, ME 04861 in Ann’s memory.
